UNISEX COUTURE 2012-2013

INNOVATION AND ACTIVISM

In 2007, Rad Hourani invented the first gender-neutral patterns and introduced a new sizing system specific to a complete unisex wardrobe. This revolutionary concept of ready-to-wear collections initiated a dialogue on non-binarity through the medium of costume. Rad's dedication to global communication and consistent media presence acts as a form of activism, challenging the limiting preconceptions embedded in costume history and human inequality.

The creations were exhibited through runway performances in Paris at the "Dominique Fiat Gallery" in 2007, and later in New York from 2008 to 2012 at the "Yvon Lambert Gallery," among other venues. These exhibitions highlight Rad's vision to break the stereotypical narratives found in society's dressing codes.

HAUTE COUTURE AND HISTORICAL RECOGNITION

In 2012, Rad Hourani was approached by the "Chambre Syndicale de la Haute Couture" in Paris to become a "guest member," endorsed by Sidney Toledano of "Christian Dior Couture." This recognition marked a significant milestone, as Rad became the first to both create and introduce a gender-neutral collection in the history of "Haute Couture" in January 2013, underscoring the necessity of a genderless approach within a historical institution.

PERFORMANCES AND EXHIBITIONS

Rad Hourani's UNISEX COUTURE live performances at the "Centre Culturel Canadien" in Paris serve as ongoing manifestations of Rad's vision. These runway installations transcend typical androgyny or countercultural movements, presenting elevated craftsmanship that urgently acknowledges the presence of gender-neutral fashion in institutionalized spaces.

The work has been exhibited at prestigious institutions, including the "Herning Museum of Contemporary Art," "Cooper Hewitt Museum," "Arsenal," "MU Art Center," "FIT Museum," and "Tate Modern." Rad's one-of-a-kind ensembles are preserved by private collectors and museums worldwide, such as "The Fine Arts Museum" in Boston.

LEGACY AND IMPACT

Through the medium of runway installations and exhibitions, Rad Hourani's UNISEX COUTURE challenges traditional gender norms and promotes inclusivity. The series stands as a testament to Rad's innovative spirit and commitment to redefining fashion's role in societal discourse.
